History

Originally built at the end of the 19th century, the building was officially opened in 1902 by Sir William Booth (founder of the Salvation Army). Sir William Booth actually lived only a short distance near Walsall town centre at the time.

The building comprised of 'Barracks' and 'School' buildings.

Used during both world wars and up until 2019. Although for a number of years fell into a very derelict state.

The buildings became surplus to The Salvation Army who decided to sell it.

At the end of 2019 a local businessman and his wife purchased the whole building. Kevin and Ellen Edwards have both been Walsall residents for all of their lives.

The rest is the future use of a fantastic original historical Walsall building!

William Booth became the organization's first commander and self-styled General when it changed its name to The Salvation Army in 1878. The Founders, William and Catherine Booth, had eight children, all of whom went on to become Salvation Army officers.
